A study on new materials/process/convergence technology to deal with climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions
KENTECH Institute for Environmental and Climate Technology aims to explore engineering solutions that can reduce and ultimately eliminate the production and consumption of chemicals and energy, which are factors that threat to the global environmental system and human society. In addition to conducting research on overall carbon-neutral climate change response technologies such as carbon reduction/capture/resource, artificial photosynthesis, biofuel, and so on, this institute will also attempt to deal with climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions by promoting research on new materials/processes/convergence technologies aimed at fundamentally solving environmental problems caused by the use and change of energy/resource.

Research
The international community is paying closer attention than ever to global environmental problems such as climate change, degraded air quality, water shortages, and ubiquitous micropollutants and microplastics. These, along with local environmental problems, are becoming increasingly complex. In response, environmental and climate researchers are developing technologies of the future that will be merged with those associated with more traditional environmental research. To meet the growing local, national, and global demand for a safer, cleaner environment and more sustainable development, our institute will build a research and education platform focused on climate change mitigation and clean energy technology. The Institute’s core interest lies in the search for engineering solutions that will tackle the environmental problems resulting from energy/resource use and conversion.
The Institute offers education and research programs for undergraduate and graduate students to develop their expertise in combatting environmental and climate change problems associated with increasing global energy and resource consumption. The Institute will serve as a national hub for education and development in the area of sustainable, carbon-neutral technology. Specific research programs include:
Catalytic and Electrochemical Conversion & Processes
Abatement of air polluting emissions (VOCs, NOx, CO2, PMs), environmental catalysis, CO2 conversion and utilization, electro fuels, resource conversion and recycling (waste/wastewater/biomass)
Solar Energy Conversion, Materials & Processes
Artificial photosynthesis, solar fuels, and solar photo (electro) catalysis
Bioprocesses
Biofuel, biomass conversion and utilization, and biorefinery
Hybridization and Process Development
Hybridization of the above technologies, and reactor-process-system development/engineering/scale-up
Artificial Sun
Superconducting magnets, cryogenic structural material, blanket technology, and fusion reactor design
Modeling and Analysis
Computational and spectroscopic studies characterizing the materials, systems, and processes of the above research areas, sustainability assessment of energy conversion, carbon cycle, and emerging technologies
Institute programs deal with a wide range of engineering systems from molecular engineering to plant construction and operation. We aspire to be the international leader of environmental and climate technology and we invite ambitious researchers from diverse disciplines, regardless of their current career progression. Please join the Institute to become a member of our inaugural team.
